The biggest issue with entering numbers into the calculator is the order of operations performed during scientific notation entry. There is an easy way to avoid having to use tons of parenthesis and worry about the order the calculator performs the calculations. This is the use of the EE button.
To do this... follow these steps
1. type in the significant figures, 6.02 2. hit the 2nd key (top left) 3. hit the EE button (above the #7, also X-1) 4. type in the exponent, 23 5. hit the equals button **Note, for most graphing calculators the EE button is on the left-hand side and does not require the use of the "2nd" key. Using this method you can directly multiply and divide numbers in scientific notation without the use of parenthesis. |
