Terms to know that will make your life easier...
General Terminology
1. Solution: a homogeneous MIXTURE
2. Aqueous: a solution with water as the solvent
3. Solvent: something that dissolves other things
4. Solute: something added to a solvent, the thing that gets dissolved
5. Dissolve / dissolution: to be incorporated into something else, evenly mixed into a solvent / the act of dissolving or breaking apart in order to be evenly mixed
6. Polar / polarity: to have an uneven distribution of electric charge such as ionic compounds or covalent compounds with one highly electronegative atom
7. Soluble / insoluble: the ability of a solute to dissolve/not dissolve in a solvent
8. precipitate: a sudden solid deposited from a solution, usually by reacting two different solutions
9. surface area: the part of a compound exposed to the touch
10. rate: the speed at which something happens
11. agitate: to disturb or move, usually by shaking or stirring
12. saturated: to have the maximum amount of solute dissolved, no more solute can dissolve.
13. unsaturated: the solution is able to have more solute dissolved in it, there is still room for more solute.
14. super saturated: To have more solute dissolved than is usually allowed at a specific temperature.
